Note – The answers here shall not be learnt as it is. It’s to give you a basic idea of what shall be included or the way you would portray yourself.
- Tell me something about yourself
This is one of the most asked question in an HR Interview as, 80% of interviews begin with this question. This is rather a “bonus question”, that gives you an ample opportunity to create your first impression in front of an interviewer.
How to answer :
Start with your current standings, and tell them WHY you are well qualified for this job profile. Mantra is ” SELL WHAT A BUYER NEEDS “, it means that, you need to tell him about your skill sets, your workshops, your internships, your projects etc. This is what he wants to know about you.
Sample Answer :
Good Morning sir/madam, I am Nitin. [include your schooling info, if it is something worth taking pride] At present i am pursuing B.tech in Computer Science and Engineering from [your_college_name]. During these years of engineering, i have learned and worked on various new technologies [like …] and have been awarded for same. [talk about your achievements] When i was in my second year, i successfully uploaded my own android app on google playstore and received number of appreciations for my hard work from my app users and my faculties. [talk about the other side of yours]
I am a highly optimistic person and i believe that whatever happens, happens for good. [tell him about your short term & long term goals]
My short term goal is to secure a job in one of the top MNCs like yours and my long term goal is that i want to be a full stack developer.
Tips :
Don’t be a parrot you don’t need to recite your resume.
Don’t flood him with cross questions, like “what you want to ask ?” – this is disrespectful.
Don’t forget to mention your achievements.
Tell him how your skill sets matches the requirement of a company.
Give some reasons so that hr can hire you.
Such type of questions sets the direction of interview and hence must be answered in an effective way.
- What are your greatest strengths ?
Well this looks simple. No ? – Its a mirage.
Believe me, this question might look as cake-walk for you, [atleast this is what you think] but it is not that simple.
From the stats, it is evident that despite of being an easy question, people struggle to answer this question.
How to answer :
You should have a clear cut idea about the requirements of that company in which you are giving your interview. Prior to interview you should have a prepared list of your strengths in your mind. All you need is to tell him a strength that looks for business-oriented [now that’s complicated] and best suits the job profile.
What HR wants in you :
-> Intelligence
-> Honesty
-> Good Fit for corporate culture
-> Your dedication towards your work
-> Your attitude and confidence level
Sample Answer :
I am very sincere and hardworking – these are my core strengths that reward me everywhere and encourage people to believe that I am a right person for them who can take their responsibilities.
Tips :
- Don’t be too humble.
- Avoid being arrogant.
- Once you tell your strengths to an interviewer, then he/she may ask you an example and you should prepare to tackle those cross questions as well.
- What are your weaknesses ?
To be honest this question is not what it looks like. This question has always been a big reason for eliminations. Admission of your weakness will earn you ‘A+’ grade for your honesty but ‘F’ for interview.
How to answer :
Well to tackle this question, our MANTRA is : “Frame a Strength as your weakness”.
Like, “I am too detail oriented”, “Sometimes, I get impatient in order to get everything done very quickly.”, ” I believe in attaining perfection in my work “.
However, this is better than accepting your real weakness. But remember, don’t even try to fool HR – because you can’t.
However some people tackle this question with different strategy i.e “Ensure your interviewer that you can’t think of any situation that is going to stop you from performing with excellence, next give him an example of how this job profile matches your skill sets, by quoting your biggest achievements/ projects etc.”
- Why you want to join this company ?
Main aim of asking this question is to check how much you know about a company in which you have applied for a job and if you can add any value to the organization.
An employee who understands is aligned with the company’s vision and mission will be more productive and stay at the company longer. The hiring manager is trying to find out if that person is you.
MANTRA :
“Do some research on company – their ongoing Projects, their achievements, their reputation in the corporate world and and ensure him(hr) that you will prove to be an asset for an organization.”
Sample Answer :
[Company_name] is one of the India’s leading MNC’s having its headquarter at Mumbai. I am sure that this company will provide me a great platform to gloom and learn new cutting-edge technologies. As a fresher, i am excited to be a part of such a great company.
- Why should we hire you ?
Well if interview is an exam, then this question is that one, which is asked every year and it is a mandatory one to answer. Probability of event “will you encounter this question” is near to 90/100, so better to prepare for it. On a positive note, if you are well aware about the requirements of a company (job profile) then its a great opportunity for you to give interviewer a great reason to hire you among other candidates. Its give you a chance to outshine others.
Tips :
-> Talk about everything that makes you special and different from other job seekers.
-> Assure him that you are serious for the job.
-> Give him promising reasons to select you.
-> Consolidate your reasons by talking about your skill sets, projects and your achievements.
Sample Answer :
Honestly, for this particular job profile, i have the perfect combination of skills that your organization is looking for. I am highly dedicated and sincere towards my work. Also, my engineering life has taught me to manage my time in the most efficient way.
If given a chance, i will surely work towards building my expertise, which would prove beneficial for me as well as your organization.
Note : Above answer is just a sample, to give an idea of “how to start”. You should frame your answer by keeping various key-points about yourself.
- Which is your dream company ?
Instead of a company, tell him that you love to work in an environment where there is an equal chance to grow, learn and contribute towards organization’s success.
